Standard of cares and advices to families

The family guide intended provides families the international standard of cares for the treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). The international consensus has been supported by the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in collaboration with patient organisations and the TREAT-NMD network. The full document has been published in the Lancet Neurology review.

The best treatment for the DMD requires a multidisciplinary approach. Several specialists of different fields must be coordinated by an experimented doctor. As each person with DMD is unique, the patient and the family should work actively with the experimented doctor.

This guide provides information for an efficient collaboration. The doctor who coordinates the treatment must be aware of all possible problems with the DMD. He must have access to the required therapies as well as to the different specialists (doctors and therapists) who must be involved in the treatment. The treatment orientation must be adapted to the disease evolution. This guide will guide you through the different fields for the treatment of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
