What is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy?<\/h1>\n

The Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and the Becker Muscular Dystrophy (BMD) are rare muscular diseases.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guillaume-Benjamin Duchenne has described the muscular dystrophy in Paris during the 19th century. The\u00a0Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy<\/strong>\u00a0affects mainly the boys. The incidence is 1\/3500 new boys born.
\nBased on the Swiss Patients Registry, 205 affected people live in Switzerland (2019). Every year, arround 5 boys affected by DMD are registered in the Swiss Patients Registry.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Becker Muscular Dystrophy<\/strong>\u00a0(BMD) was given by the German doctor Peter Emil Becker, who has diagnosed the first patients in fifties and sixties.
\nWe don’t know how many people affected by this disease are living in Swizterland. Almost only boys are affected by the BMD, but the disease is 10 times less frequent than the DMD. The incidence is 1\/20000 new boys born.<\/p>\n
